Out of Town Bags in true Savannah Style

image If you are traveling to Savannah to get married, or have guests that are traveling, what better way to start out the festivities with a welcome bag? Welcome bags are a great way to make your guests feel little more personal. The bags above are from Kate Parker Weddings but you can easily create these yourselves with our help! So what should you include in this welcome bag?

 The bag itself.

You can either use normal gift bags and get a sticker or label of some sort to attach with your name, date and Thank You or Welcome!

OR pre-customized bags can also be ordered will the information on it.

OR get really creative with baskets, pails or boxes! The possibilities are endless.

*Water Bottles.

Provide at least 2 water bottles, since 1 bag is most likely going to a couple. You can also get these personalized for that extra touch.


Two individually wrapped packs of Tylenol might be a life savor to someone that weekend.


Fill the bags up with excess, these are great fillers!

*BONUS:If you have a membership to Sam’s or Costco…these are cheap when you buy in bulk!


Order some of your favorite cookies to include, such as pralines from Savannah Candy Kitchen, Byrd Cookies, or monogrammed cookies from Two Smart Cookies. This is also a nice way to add a little bit of Savannah, GA or the local area to your bags.

Postcards with stamps.

If your guests are traveling and leaving some family back at home, why not provide them a postcard with postage to send.

Lottery Tickets.

Who doesn't love a good scratch off?


If they are traveling, they most likely need a map. For a special touch, add stickers to your wedding venues!

Thank You Letter.

It's the first chance you get to thank your guests for taking the time out to share in your special day.


Most people don't bring their wedding invitation along with them, so they might forget what time the ceremony starts. Having this will insure everyone to be on time and no phone calls the day of bothering you about the schedule.

BONUS: Put your wedding planner’s phone number on the contact form as well so that they can field phone calls for you!


Why not suggest your favorite places to eat or your favorite things to do around town. The CVB has tons of pamphlets and discount coupons that you could include.

BONUS: if you call them ahead of time with the number you need, they will assemble them for you ahead of time!

Flip Flops, sunscreen, chapstick, towels and sand toys! After all you are a stones throw from the beach!

This bag will be the first thing your guests see when they get to Savannah, so why not be creative and make it personal. Set the tone for the weekend.

Real Savannah Wedding: Brittany and Jeff Part 1

Brittany and Jeff were married in one of my favorite Savannah squares-Washington Square and followed it up with a reception at the beautiful Marshall House in downtown Savannah, GA. It was a beautiful day for a Savannah wedding and not a second went by that these two love birds weren't soaking in every minute of this monumental day. I loved the bright and fresh colors of the flowers and the different bridesmaid dresses were so classy and fit each girls personalities to a “T”. I love when brides let their girls pick out their dresses…it just looks so much more fun! To tie it all…Brittany even had a sash in the color of her girls dresses as an accessory to her amazing dress! Thanks to Justin of 4 Square Photos for making sure every second, every smile, and every perfect moment will live on in these two lives. Stay tuned for Part 2~!

Guest Blog-Plan for a Flawless Face in Wedding Photos

Wedding pictures hold some of the happiest memories of a lifetime, so be sure you consider all the angles when preparing to be photographed on the big day.

In the weeks and months leading up to the wedding…

Plan your procedures ahead- it’s easy to get caught up in the craziness of tastings, fittings and appointments and forget to schedule facial treatments until the last minute. Don’t be tempted to get microdermabrasion or chemical peels within at least a month of the event, depending on the exact type of laser or peel. Laser resurfacing "heals within days and normal color returns within a few weeks- if that long" according to Dr. Edward Lack (Chicago Rhinoplasty). Even a simple facial shouldn't be considered in the last few days leading up. Call well ahead of time and discuss this with the technician.

Practice good skin health- stay hydrated and eat healthfully leading up to the event. Don’t try new skincare products, or anything that may irritate your skin. Anticipate your skin’s history, and treat it accordingly depending on changes your skin may experience in the climate or weather that’s expected at the venue.

Start with a good base- be sure that your foundation is the right color and formulation for your skin. You may feel like you should use a heavy cream or stick foundation since you’re being photographed, but heavier formulas will look caked on and are more likely leave a line of demarcation around the neck and hairline that’s tougher to blend away. Just stick with the liquid or powder that works for you, and be sure it’s properly matched to your color. No one wants to look washed out, but it can also age you a bit if your base is too dark for you. Color correcting concealers, like green or yellow for redness, and peach or yellow for undereye circles are a much better choice than simply layering on more makeup. Remember that redness will be easily picked up in photographs so take care to balance that out, and stay away from more pink based foundations.

Avoid the shiny look- glitter will reflect too much on camera, and shouldn’t be worn to a nice event like a wedding anyway. Radiance-enhancing or shimmery foundations make faces look too slick and shiny for photos, so if you must, only keep the sheen on cheekbones and the cupid’s bow for highlighting purposes. Always finish the t-zone with powder, which is especially important to balance any highlighting applied. If you know you’re more oily, pop pressed powder in your bag so that you stay shine free.

20090523-005 The eyes have it- keep in mind that darker eyeshadows and heavy liner make eyes look smaller. A matte or pearl shadow formula will be universally flattering and especially in warm, earthy tones. To keep eyes looking big and bright, highlight the inner corners and brow bone with an off-white, light pink or pale gold shadow or crayon. The older you are, the more important it is to stay fast to the no shimmer rule, as it tends to bring attention to fine lines. Black eyeliner can also look too harsh for older women (same goes for liquid liner) and fair blondes are more suited for eyeliner and mascara in the brown tones. Don’t forget to make sure brows are properly framing the face- everyone looks better and younger with defined brows. Fill the arches with powder or if using a pencil, blend with a brush. Brow color and size are important considerations here, so don’t forget to use a light hand and blend.

Consider your venue and lighting- do take the time to stop and think about if the event/ photos will be taking place indoors or out, and at what time of day. Indoor photos will be taken with flash, so it’s important to use powder to combat shine and to also be sure foundation is matched well. If outdoors, soften makeup a bit as it can easily look too heavy or harsh. Also adjust your makeup look for more formal locations, and later times in the evening. When considering these factors, you will want to use more color and definition over simply adding more makeup.20090523-077

Keeping these ideas in mind, remember its always most important to look like yourself and feel comfortable on your wedding day. These techniques will help ensure you look flawless both in person and in photographs for years to come.

How to carry around your whose-its and whats-its in style.


Now, as a bride you shouldn’t have to carry anything. People should be scrounging around you holding whatever you need them to, buuuuut who doesn’t love any excuse to buy a pretty purse. I’m not talking about a giant handbag, but a super cute delicate clutch! Think just enough room for your lipstick, blotting papers(I’m greasy), and some mascara. Is your heart racing with glee!? It should be! I think that the perfect little wedding clutch is not only a great way to complete your look, but a wonderful momento to keep around for years to come. And your dress style may not be en vogue when your own daughter gets married, but how genius would it be to give her the same purse to carry! It’ll be vintage. You will still be blissfully young, thank you Botox.

Part 2- The DIY Instructions to re-creating our Birdcage themed shoot!

One of my favorite DIY ideas was to create our own birdseed wreath. This one requires some patience and a few rolls over the birdseed, but as you can see...the outcome is well worth the extra effort!

Birdseed Wreaths

To create them:


  • 2 of the largest foam wreaths you can buy at any craft store. (we used squared off edges instead of the round but you can use whichever you prefer.)
  • 1 bag of bird seed
  • Styrofoam or heavy duty glue


  1. Get a deep bin or large working surface and spread the birdseed out
  2. Heavily roll the wreaths in glue, gently helping the birdseed on by lightly patting to cover (you may need to repeat several times after you allow to dry a little)
  3. Tie your ribbon of choice on to hang!

Ribbon wands are perfect in lieu of sparklers or as flower girl wands. To create them:


  • 3 ft dowels (from any craft store, each will heed 2)
  • Ribbon
  • Cardstock
  • Glue dots
  • Spray Paint
  1. Cut dowels in half.
  2. Spray paint wooden dowels white (or any color of your choosing).
  3. Tie strands of ribbon at the top of the dowel in varying heights.
  4. Cut out paper birds from desired paper. I used cardstock in similar shades.
  5. Attach paper birds to the ends of the ribbon by a glue dot.

Paper flower garlands and birdcages were hung from the trees. To create the birdcages:


  • Embroidery hoop (2 per birdcage)
  • Chicken wire
  • Ribbon
  • Wooden Dowels
  • Candle
  • Birds


  1. Use an embroidery hoop as your base and top.
  2. Wrap chicken wire around and wire to the hoops.
  3. Wire wooden dowels into the display (high enough not to be burned by a candle, if you choose to have one in your birdcage), and add birds with wire or hot glue.

A bird mobile hung above the tabletop. It’s easy to create on your own!


  • Pea gravel
  • Planter
  • Outdoor small flag stand
  • Wooden dowels
  • Fishing line
  • Paper birds
  • Glue


  1. Place the pea gravel and flag stand into the planter, being sure it will stand vertical
  2. Attach paper birds to each end of wooden dowels and along fishing wire
  3. Use fishing wire to hang dowels from flag stand

Featured on Elizabeth Anne Designs Blog for our DIY Birdcage themed wedding shoot

We had the pleasure of creating an amazing photo shoot for Elizabeth Anne Designs Blog that was featured in her Inspired Creations Contest. With the help of the every so talented Jade McCully Photography and Emma J Designs we created a wedding concept incorporating birds and birdcages that is so whimsical and fun!

Adorable framed signs showed the way to the birdseed wreaths that decorated the entrance to The Davenport House.

The look is sophisticated yet relaxed and handmade and the palette of pink, peach, purple and gold is perfect for a springtime wedding. A bird logo, as shown on the invitations by Emma J Designs above, made its appearance in all of the details.

A birdbath at the entrance held programs and birdseed in customized stamped muslin bags, that woudl be used to shower the couple as they exited the aisle as the new Mr. and Mrs.

Escort cards were hung with clothespins from a large antique frame backed by chicken wire, and birdcages and ribbon were the theme of the day!

For the table: The main focus was the wooden dowel bird mobile that hung above the table. We used different sizes of mason jars for the vases and cute bird pictures in frames as a base/charger for the plates. Stuffed birds in different patterns sat on each place setting and the matching bird house from the place cards hung from the backs of the chairs.
