Yes! You can do your own makeup! I swear. I didn’t do mine, but I could have and that’s all that really matters. Makeup seems to scare so many people, but it, like anything, just requires some practice. I put it on just to take it off some days. Now, if you practice and still look a hot mess then maybe you could just show the picture to your makeup artist. Your wedding is a day for you to look your best and know it. I have taken a few of my favorite makeup trends and will now help you turn them into your wedding day makeup.
Purple Princess
To my dear friend Tricia’s despair, purple is huge right now! I think this is a great trend and when used sparingly can be a fantastic way to spruce up your wedding day makeup. Follow Gwyneth Paltrow’s lead and use shades of purple for a very light smokey eye. I found great color shadows from NARS and MAKEUP FOREVER. Use a lighter lilac on the lid near the bridge of the nose, blend the darker shade from the iris to the outer corner of your eye. This look really wakes up the eye and looks stunning. Use the same method both the top and bottom. This style can be duplicated with any color you desire...happy Tricia? Use an awesome mascara like Givency’s defining formula, the awesome little brush reaches every little lash, it takes a bit of practice to not get it on your face, but when you get it trust me you will always want it in your makeup arsenal. Finally, I found a great Dior Addict gloss in beige velvet to finish the look .
Bronzed Goddess
Eva Mendes mixes bronzy beach bum and sexy bombshell like a champ. Everything is minimal, yet dynamic. The eye is all about control and not going overboard, like using just enough black liquid liner, I like Sephora’s it’s cheap, and defined lashes, I’m a fan of Bare Escentuals Big Tease mascara. Before applying liner, I would do a nice sweep of gold eye shadow all over the lid, paying close attention to the inner corner of the eye and along the brow bone. Now time for the liquid liner, first, pull the eyelid taught and as steady as possible, using your pinky for stability, trace as closely as you can to the lash line. Don’t let the line extend very far or you will look a bit retro...unless, that’s what you are after. Mascara it up and finish with an amazing bronzer, Guerlain makes the best out there, it always looks unbelievably natural. Apply the bronzer to wear the sun hits you naturally and if it makes it easier trace a three from your forehead down to your cheekbone then finishing on your chin, tap a bit on your nose and viola, super hot bronzed bride!
Coral Queen
I love all things coral! I have days when I bust out my coral lip gloss and just feel good all day! Why wouldn’t you want to feel that way on your big day. I love how Jessica Biel wore this trend, it’s a lot of coral without looking well...orange. MAKEUP FOREVER has great coral lip gloss and shadow. Instead of liner, use a bold coral shadow to line your eyes and dust your cheeks, my fave coral blush is Benefit’s Georgia, plus it smells delish. Use a light mascara, like Shu Uemura’s basic formula, the softest mascara I have ever used, I swear! Then finish with a bright gloss and a sweeping of Bare Minerals tinted mineral veil to smooth everything and add a touch of warmth.
English Rose
I am unfortunately not an English Rose, but with a touch of makeup I can feel like one, until I wash it off. Keira Knightley is absolutely an English Rose and the apple of my husband’s eye. I can’t say that I blame her, she’s hot. She can do no wrong! Her look is soft and sweet with all kinds of sex appeal hidden underneath. Look for natural rosy colors, like CHANEL’s mystic eye quad. These colors can be used together or separately, but for this look use the soft pink all over the lid and up to the brow bone. Use the lightest brown shade in the crease and finish with the copper brown focused in the crease, but only at the very corner of the outer eye. Finish the eye with Lancome’s Definicils mascara, which is crazy waterproof and amazingly still soft. To get that angelic flush, use Benefit’s Posie-tint, this amazing color stain is the greatest thing ever invented. It is a much softer color than the companies famous Bene-tint and much easier to use. Place three lines on the apple of your cheeks, blend with your fingers and glow on! I feel like you look instantly sexy with an application. For the lip, find any super rosy beige lipstick NARS & Bobbi Brown have wonderful color options and are also wonderful moisturizing formulas.
Explaining this stuff is not always easy to do without demonstrating, so if you have any questions about application or any products, please feel free to ask. I would love to help make the world a prettier place.
Until we meet again, stay bridal and please toss any makeup you haven’t worn since the 90’s...that is seriously nasty...like bacteria and...nasty.
