Future Savannah Wedding: Ashlee and Ray

Ashlee Brewer & Ray Edelen

Date Engaged

December 3, 2011

Where did you meet?

We played soccer together in high school and began dating a year after meeting; the beginning of Ashlee’s sophomore and Ray’s senior year.

How did he propose?

After a year deployment to Iraq, Ray proposed 3 days after a surprising homecoming.  We lived in Augusta at the time and we planned to drive to Atlanta to the go shopping. Ashlee was setting the ironing board up to iron his clothes, as Ray was looking in his closet at what to wear. With Ray standing in front of his closet seeming to be looking through clothes, Ashlee walked into the room. Ray quickly turned around, with ring in hand and asked her to marry him. Her first response was, "shutup, really?!" She jumped and hugged him. Ray had to ask again, "so...?" "Yes, Ray! Yes!" she said. Ray then said that he was going to take her shopping for new clothes to go with her new ring. She replied, "Yay! Can I call my family?!" After 11 years, they were ENGAGED! (Yes, we heard numerous ‘finallys’ when we got engaged and we are sure there will be many ‘finally’ comments on the wedding day.)

When is your wedding date?

September 8, 2012

Why did you pick the area you are getting married in?
We grew up in Hinesville (military brats) and loved driving to Savannah all the time. We also both lived in Savannah for 2 years during college before moving to Augusta. We love the history, culture, numerous things to do outdoors and walking the cobblestones streets of Savannah. Also, Ashlee has always dreamed of getting married in the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist. We wanted our friends and family to enjoy Savannah as much as we do!

Where do you reside now?

We recently moved to Navarre, Florida where Ray works at Hurlbert Field on Eglin AFB. We’re so happy to be close to the beach again!

Anything interesting or out of the ordinary you are including in your
wedding day?
As one of our favors, Ashlee is baking dog treats for guests to bring home to their four-legged family members. Also, to bring a bit of Savannah home from our wedding, instead of a guest book we will have guests sign their well wishes on stones that we will later display in hurricanes/vases in our home.

The big day is just around the corner and we are soooooo excited. We cannot wait for the big day and it is an honor to be able to share in the memories you will make this weekend together.

XO
The MGE Team
